Work Starts on Westminster's First Cycle Superhighway

Grosvenor Road - the route of Westminster's first Cycle Superhighway

Work is beginning on the first Cycle Superhighway in Westminster, running between Lambeth Bridge and Wandsworth via Chelsea Bridge.

Work on Chelsea Bridge and the junction at the north end is scheduled to last about five weeks from Saturday 12th March. Work on Grosvenor Road between Vauxhall and Chelsea Bridges is scheduled last about 10 weeks from Monday 21st March.

The main feature of the section along Grosvenor Road is a two-metre-wide cycle lane in both directions.

We have learnt that, in order not to reduce traffic capacity, the pedestrian phase is to be eliminated at the junction with Lupus Street. This may inconvenience some cyclists who use the riverside cycle track in the ‘wrong’ direction.
