Regent Street Crossing Opens

Westminster has now opened its new cycle crossing of Regent Street. This connects with a new eastbound contraflow cycle lane in Hanover Street, creating a new cycle route from Hanover Square to Great Marlborough Street (marked in red on the map below).

The new route fills a significant gap in Westminster's cycle network. Previously there was no route from the north of Mayfair into Soho, though there was one in the opposite direction.

The new cycle route is shown in red.
NB Traffic currently circulates around Hanover Square in an anticlockwise direction.

As part of the same package of measures, the priority has been changed in favour of Great Marlborough Street at its junction with Poland Street. This allows cyclists to maintain momentum from the hill in the westbound direction and to gain momentum for the hill in the eastbound direction.

We have asked Westminster to allow eastbound cycling in Noel Street east of Berwick Street, which would be a useful extension to this route. The council says that this proposal has been put on hold because of the Crossrail works in and around Soho Square.

There is also some work to be done following the completion of work on a bulding site at the corner of Hanover Square. The cycle track currently follows a small diversion past the site.
