Exhibition Road: Westminster's plans revealed

Lambeth Bridge
The Kensington & Chelsea end of Exhibition Road

We have now seen plans for the Westminster end of Exhibition Road.

The good news is that a 20mph limit will apply throughout the whole length of the street, both the Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster ends. It also appears that the traffic signals are to be removed from the junction with Prince Consort Road and the prohibition lifted on turning right from Prince Consort Road into Exhibition Road. At present, you can only do this if you are a bus.

The Westminster end will not look like the photo, however. As part of the 'shared surface' project, 52 residents' car parking spaces will be provided in the middle of the road outside Imperial College. And the existing residents' and diplomats' car parking spaces will be retained at the side of the road north of Prince Consort Road. It is not clear whom the residents and diplomats will be sharing this surface with!
