Cycle Superhighway Hyde Park Cornered

Hyde Park Corner

Plans to improve cycle routes at Hyde Park Corner have run into obstacles.

As part of the plans for Cycle Superhighway 9, which will run from Hounslow to Park Corner, Transport for London's engineers had proposed a couple of imaginative measures to relieve the cycle congestion that currently occurs at the entrance to Hyde Park, namely:

We have heard from the Royal Parks, however, that the military are unwilling to give up their exclusive use of the central arch. And Transport for London are concerned that the proposals could reduce the capacity of Hyde Park Corner for other traffic.

The current cycle facilities at Hyde Park Corner cannot accommodate all the cyclists that pass through at peak times. A new arrangement is badly needed.
